Jeremiah

Prophet Jeremiah addresses the Jews exile in Babylon as a result of pagan worship and foreshadows restoration and a new covenant.

Jeremiah likens the exile of Jews to the unfaithfulness of a wife or rebelliousness of children. God has judged their actions unjust and so is punishing them through exile in Babylon. It contains the most googled verse in the Old Testament: "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." (Jeremiah 29:11)

According to religious tradition, in addition to the Book of Jeremiah, the prophet Jeremiah also authored First Kings and Second Kings and the Book of Lamentations.
