John

John gazes upwards towards God as he receives inspiration for scriptural writing. He sits above a symbolic eagle (see eagle references in Ezekiel 1:10 and Revelation 4:7) while two cherubs support his books (see Psalm 80:1 for 'cherubims' reference). Saint John the Evangelist: Domenichino Zampieri (1624-1629)

First John gives guidance to Christians on keeping Jesus’ commands, loving one another and other topics for remaining faithful to the gospel. It includes well-known teachings such as walking "in the light, as he is in the light" and not loving the world, how to discern true teachers and rejects the belief that Jesus came in spirit but did not come "in the flesh" (4:2-3).
