Paul of Tarsus on Law
← Back to Paul of Tarsus Profile
โFor all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.โ
โTo those outside the law I became as one outside the lawโnot being without law toward God but under the law of Christโthat I might win those outside the law.โ
โOn the other hand, the fruitage of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, mildness, self-control. Against such things there is no law.โ
โThe law was our guardian until Christ came, in order that we might be justified by faith. But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian, for in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.โ
โOwe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.โ
โLet no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for whoever loves others has fulfilled the law. The commandments, โYou shall not commit adultery,โ โYou shall not murder,โ โYou shall not steal,โ โYou shall not covet,โ and whatever other command there may be, are summed up in this one command: โLove your neighbor as yourself.โ Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.โ
