An angel displays symbolic examples of vanity, an example of the deadly sin of pride. Proverbs 6:16-19 outlines the seven deadly sins as, "A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.". Rather than seeking material wealth, Proverbs promotes wisdom as some of the greatest wealth attainable. 8:10-11 says, "Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it." Proverbs 20:15 says, "There is gold, and a multitude of rubies: but the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel." Proverbs Summary

Proverbs is a book of wisdom which discusses values, moral behaviour, the meaning of life and proper conduct.

A continuous theme is that the fear of God's will is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom is praised throughout for its role in creation. God acquired wisdom before all else and through it, He gave order to chaos. Since humans have prospered by conforming to the order of creation, seeking wisdom is the essence and goal of a spiritual life.

Proverbs is among the Books of Wisdom which includes Job, Psalms, Ecclesiastes and Song of Solomon (Song of Songs).
