In Matthew 1:18-25 Mary has become pregnant and Joseph is considering parting ways with Mary to avoid public humiliation. Then an angel of the Lord appears to Joseph in a dream (as pictured) and tells Joseph: "fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost. And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins." When Joseph awoke he accepted Mary as his wife and he and Mary would go on to raise Jesus as their son. Image Source

Mary with infant Jesus and Joseph flee Bethlehem to Egypt seeking refuge from king Herod. An angel had appeared to Joseph in a dream telling him to bring his family to Egypt and "be thou there until I bring thee word: for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him." During this time, Herod ordered all children in Bethlehem and the surrounding areas that were two years or less to be killed. The holy family only returns after Herod has died.
