MATTHEW 3

KING JAMES VERSION (KJV)

WORDS OF JESUS IN RED

John the Baptist preaches the baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins to a group of followers in Bethabara as Jesus approaches. People who came to see John included priests, publicans (tax collectors) and soldiers. After hearing John preach, some thought John might be the Christ. But John tells them "one mightier than I cometh, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to unloose: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost and with fire" (Luke 3:1-22). Compare also with Matthew 3:1-17, Mark 1:1-11 and John 1:6-11. Alexander Ivanov painted Appearance of Christ to the People for some 20 years (1837-1857). See Matthew 3:1–17, Mark 1:1–11, Luke 3:1–22, John 1:6–11. Source
