Jacob Wrestles God Inspiration for Overcoming Challenges in Life

GENESIS 32:22 TO 32:30

KING JAMES VERSION (KJV)

WORDS OF GOD IN RED

This story is about Jacob, later given the name Israel by God, who is a Patriarch of the Israelites. He was a grandson to Abraham, a son to Isaac, and the younger twin brother to Esau. Jacob's name comes from taking hold of his brother Esau's heel when they were born (Genesis 25:26).

In this story, Jacob is returning to Canaan, the land promised to his grandfather Abraham, and has learned from his messengers that he sent ahead, that he would soon meet his brother Esau and some 400 men. This made Jacob greatly afraid and distressed" (Genesis 32:7), as he thought Esau, having a birthright to the land of Canaan as the elder brother, might kill him and their group...

This episode resulted in God (the angel) changing Jacob's name to "Israel" saying "Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed." While God does not give His name, Jacob names "the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved." This is an inspiration to anyone who is engaged in any struggle in life. If you persevere, you will eventually succeed. This key is to maintain your grit and determination to continue the fight.
